Modern Kitchen Splashback: Case Study
A modern kitchen splashback for a hand built kitchen in ash by Angus+Mack. With beautiful results. Located near the sea in rural Fife, I was commissioned to design a bespoke splashback for a new kitchen in an old cottage. A property completely transformed by a huge extension and extensive renovation. This splashback project really demonstrates how to successfully incorporate nature inspired contemporary pattern into a modern kitchen design.

The splashback for this gorgeous kitchen is completely site-specific. Importantly, it’s inspired by the breathtaking surroundings in which the property is set. To set the scene, the cottage stands in its own grounds, enveloped by woodland with an ancient copper beech tree at the very centre of everything. Featuring all the things found in the grounds, my Splashback design depicts badgers, buzzards, bluebells and beech trees, for example. As well as ferns, pinecones and pheasants, to name just a few.
Moreover, it has a soft purposeful colour palette to compliment the stone worktop and gorgeous hand built kitchen in Ash by Angus+Mack. In the same vein, natural materials in the skeleton leaves incorporated inside the glass add depth and texture. The brief was to deliver a cohesive feel with the splashback design that would bring the entire space together.

Hours and hours of work, location specific drawing and visits to photograph the grounds of this gorgeous Scottish home enabled this design. It demonstrates what a bespoke piece of art for your kitchen can achieve. This splashback is a true reflection of everyone’s love and investment in getting the project absolutely right .
We worked with Emma on a bespoke kitchen project at our holiday home in Scotland. She visited us several times to get a feel for the house, garden and the materials we were using in the kitchen.
