Pretty Pieces to Make a Rented House a Home
Pretty, floral homeware that adds flourishes of colour and pattern is a fun and easy way to make your rented house feel like a home. We’ve picked our best renter-friendly homewares from Emma’s designer collections for this journal post, from pretty & practical tableware, to investment pieces you’ll treasure for life.
As a designer who works within interiors, I’m fascinated by how people choose to decorate their rooms. Adding your own touches is so important to making any house rented feel like home, as you can really tailor the kind of vibe you want to create. Do you want to achieve cosy and relaxing, or bright and uplifting? In rented properties (which can often be total blank canvases), adding personal touches of homewares and decoration can easily make your space feel really ‘you’. So, whether you’re moving into your first rental or looking to refresh a well-loved apartment, we hope this journal post inspires you.
Making a Rented House a Home
Fresh flowers and plants are great for breathing life and colour into any space. As well as purifying the air and boosting wellbeing too. An easy way to switch up the look is to change your floral arrangement with the seasons. Go with cheerful bright blooms in the summer, then dried, textural or metallic stems as the seasons change. Emma’s versatile Silver Birch Vase is a brilliant staple that works for both large bouquets and artfully arranged stems. Perfect for adorning windowsills and dining tables alike.
Mirrors are a clever way to bounce light and add some interest to plain spaces, if you’re able to hang things on your walls. Emma Britton decorative mirrors are very easy to put up too, with a simple and secure hanging rail system included. If you move house, Emma’s mirrors can also be easily removed and re-hung using the same fittings. Available in two designs, choose from the elegant Willow or tropical-feeling Fritillaria.
Emma’s etched wall mirrors are all made to order at her decorative glassware studio in England. The standard size (60cm) is great for brightening up dark hallways or bathrooms, but custom size mirrors are also available. Contact the studio for a quotation if you’d like an alternative size or shape.
Glassware Perfect for Small Spaces
If you’re short on space, functional (but beautiful nonetheless) things are the way forward. Stackable tumblers are a brilliant choice for decorative glassware because they take up less room. Their versatile shape and size means they can be enjoyed for water, juices, beers, wines and cocktails alike. Choose from either the Silver Birch or Meadow designs, or mix and match for a more eclectic look.
More Floral Homeware for Rented Homes
Finally, an easy way to introduce some colour or pattern into a room that you can’t paint is through soft furnishings. Choose cushions, rugs, and kitchen textiles to reflect the aesthetic you’re wanting to achieve. If super floral homeware is your thing, then Emma’s signature hydrangea and foxglove designs will be just up your street. A boldly patterned tea towel or tray will be a pretty and practical addition to your kitchen that you can enjoy using everyday. These beautiful floral homewares also make sweet housewarming or host gifts too.
