Derbyshire Days Out

Did you know the Emma Britton decorative glassware studio is based in Derbyshire? It’s where Emma designs and decorates all of her beautiful botanical and floral glassware, and makes to order her signature floral splashbacks. Although we work across the UK and beyond attending shows, for your online orders and wherever you need a splashback delivered or installed, Derbyshire is a lovely base to have.
We recently enjoyed a team trip out to the countryside right on our doorstep; for some rest and recharge ahead of a busy year! It inspired us to pay homage to our ‘home county’ in this journal post.
Scroll for our favourite places to visit in Derbyshire and the Peak District. Perfect for a spring day out to banish the winter chills.
Our Favourite Derbyshire Days Out
Chatsworth House
It goes without saying, this world renowned Derbyshire spot is a must-visit place. Explore parklands, fountains and glasshouses, not to mention the kitchen gardens – Emma’s favourite! Did you know Emma designed an exclusive decorative glassware collection for Chatsworth? Inspired by the House’s iconic Chinese Wallpaper, Emma’s glassware range features everything from bud vases to champagne coupes. You’ll find the original wallpapers that inspired this beautifully ornate glassware design in the guest rooms on a tour of the house.
Also, don’t forget Chatsworth Kitchen in Rowsley. Stop for lunch and pick up contemporary home and kitchenwares here, produced by select artisans and local makers.
Haddon Hall
We recently discovered Haddon Hall and were delighted to sell Emma Britton glassware at their Mercatum Christmas Artisan Market. And what a hidden gem it is! The medieval hall is a time capsule of history; check out the magical little grotto we took over as our glassware shop for the week. Beautiful, working parklands surround the hall too so there’s just so much to explore. We can’t wait to go back already. And if you’re a fan of Wolf Hall you’ll be interested to know that some of the filming for The Mirror and The Light took place here.
Museum of Making
A little less rural but nonetheless brilliant, the Museum of Making is great for a creative family day out in Derbyshire. Explore the wonderfully restored Silk Mill before taking part in one of their many creative programmes. Their curated gift shop is a long-time stockist of Emma’s signature floral glassware too, alongside other local Derbyshire makers including White Peak Distillery.
